Remote work is not 'just like office work but without the fun'. Just like a vegetarian dish doesn't have to just be a 'steak dinner without the steak'. But remote work does require us to re-imagine social life.
Social life
Aula-wide
- In-person retreats: Aula facilitates whole-team retreats, usually once per year, to build stronger connections in our distributed team and plan ahead for the future.
- Donuts: We use Donut to encourage team members to meet up with someone else on a weekly basis for a casual coffee (or donut!) chat
- Community-building: We celebrate birthdays, support each other, share personal wins, and host a growing number of Slack channels for all kinds of non-work talk
Team-specific
Team-specific socials are organised by the teams themselves (Customer Success, Engineering, etc).
- Individual teams are actively encouraged to plan socials.
- Each team can access our social budget to host community and social events
Check out the AulaSocial page for more information about activities and how to sign up for them.
Tips for when you get lonely
Building trust and building community counts as 'work'. "A remote coffee a day keeps the therapist away", as they say.
