45-minute ride
Here we go again. It's tech time!
On today's menu, we have setting up Aula, Slack and 1Password. It may sound like a lot of ground to cover in one sitting, but we promise you'll feel great once you're done ✌️
Task 1 Set up your Aula account 🤩 Spoiler alert: This will likely take you only 10 mins :)
As you've probably noticed, we use Aula for onboarding, but we also use it for testing new features. You will need to use your Gmail (aula.ac.uk) for this.
↪ Bookmark the Aula page: https://app.aula.education/ and log into Aula. ↪ Download the mobile app.
Task 2 Set up your Slack account 💬
We use Slack for all internal communication. You may be wondering - why not use Aula? Aula is not designed to be a workplace comms tool in the way that we need it to be. For a long time we 'ate our own dog food' as we built the product. As our team grew, we found that we needed a tool meant for workplace communication.
Here's what you need to do: ↪ Join Aula's Slack workspace. You should have received an invite to your Gmail (aula.ac.uk) account. Follow the instructions in your email to log in. ↪ Download the desktop app to your laptop. ↪ Understand how we use Slack.
Task 3 Set up 1Password 🔒 Spoiler alert: This is worth staying focused, so take a wee break before you get going.
We use 1Password for things like: ↪ Store and share passwords for all Aula environments (e.g. Nottingham admin dashboard) ↪ Generate and store secure passwords (no more ‘lastname123’ for your professional Google account, OK?)
To set it up, here's what you need to do: ↪ Check your Gmail for an invite to team’s account, then, create a long, pronounceable master password. ↪ Download the desktop app, Chrome extension, and mobile app iOS or Android. ↪ Make sure you have access to the ‘Aula at Coventry’ vault; message your POC (Prachi Patel, Katia Gass or Mariana Aguiar) if you don't. Don’t save passwords in KeyChains or your browser.
And that's it. To celebrate your stamina, you can either read more about how to create, fill and save passwords here, or you can take a few soothing breaths here before you move on to task 4.
You've earned it :)
And believe it or not, that's all for now 🎯
